The Claims Process in 5 Easy Steps
So, you’ve just experienced a disaster, and now, on top of the all the turmoil that has caused in your life, you have to attempt to navigate through your insurance company’s claims process. For most people, this can be overwhelming, especially if this is your first experience. For more than 20 years, Day and Night Water Removal Specialists have been working with property owners to help them move through the insurance claims process quickly and efficiently. We offer the following 5-step guide to help make the process of submitting and working through a claim easier:
Step 1) Submit your claim
This is typically done with the help of your insurance agent, or, as is often the case, through a representative selected by your insurance provider. Submitting a claim may be done in several different ways, including over the phone or online. In most cases, it is advised to speak with your agent first, who can provide you with direction and, in some cases, even submit the claim on your behalf.
Step 2) Property adjuster assigned
Once the claim is submitted and filed, a property adjuster will most likely be assigned to you, although this is not always the case. Though the claims process can vary from insurance provider to insurance provider, it is common for the assigned property adjuster to meet you at your home or property to inspect the damage, at which point the claim can be settled and your property restored.
Step 3) Consult your insurance policy
It is extremely important that you familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of your insurance policy. The most common item that people overlook in their property policies is the responsibility of the property owner to prevent further damage from occurring to the property. It is also the home or property owner’s responsibility to communicate with the insurance provider and, if necessary, submit a claim without delay. If your property is not habitable, and you incur additional costs for food, lodging, etc., it is important to keep a detailed record of all expenses associated with the disaster. These expenses typically must be submitted for reimbursement as part of the claim.
Step 4) Day and Night to the Rescue
Be aware that it does take time for your submitted claim to be processed and settled. Due to several different factors, your claim may be resolved within a matter of days, or it may take several months in some cases. Regardless of the time frame, when Day and Night Water Removal Specialists are on your side, you can rest assured that your claim is being handled quickly and efficiently. We work with your insurance provider each step along the way to help expedite the repair process and restore your property to its original condition as soon as possible.
Step 5) Billing
Now that the repair process and restoration is nearing completion, you likely have many questions about billing. In most cases, your insurance provider will pay the restoration contractor directly. However, as with the other processes, every insurance provider is different. In some instances, a check may be issued to the home or property owner. If this occurs, you are responsible to pay the restoration contractor upon completion of the work. Furthermore, your insurance provider may hold you responsible for paying your deductible, which the selected restoration contractor will typically collect before work begins. Being familiar with your policy will help you ensure that the proper amount is collected.
